Meet Ruth Anne McIlmoyl

A dedicated community advocate, experienced councillor at large, and candidate for Deputy Mayor committed to serving North Kawartha with integrity, fiscal responsibility, and local leadership.

Deep roots and practical experience

North Kawartha has always been home. Growing up along Highway 28 just outside Apsley, I learned early on the true value of looking out for your neighbours. My professional career in financial management, customer service, collections, systems analysis, and financial planning taught me how to budget wisely, plan ahead, and deliver real accountability. Throughout my life, community service has remained central—volunteering with local organizations like the Lions Club, our local Legion, the North Kawartha Public Library, the Apsley Central School Parent Teacher Council, as well as the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation and the MS Society of Canada.

Delivering tangible results for our township

As Councillor at Large, I have focused on responsive governance. After attending the Rural Ontario Municipalities Association conference in 2023, I championed the subsidized FoodCycler program for North Kawartha. The initiative sold out almost immediately in 2024, helping reduce household food waste and keeping tons of organics out of our landfills. As Chair of the Community Improvement Committee, I spearheaded an honest assessment of our business grants, listening to local feedback to rewrite the program so it provides meaningful support to our small business owners and year-round economy.

A strong voice at Peterborough County Council

The prolonged closure of the Highway 504 bridge by Glen Alda Road showed firsthand how County-level decisions directly disrupt North Kawartha families and emergency access. The Deputy Mayor holds our township's second seat at Peterborough County Council. I am stepping up because our community deserves an active, informed, and persistent advocate at the County table—ensuring our roads, bridges, and essential services receive the attention and funding they deserve.

"Responsible financial stewardship, attainable housing that respects our rural character, and protecting our lakes and forests while supporting local business."
